Effects of concrete heterogeneity on FRP-concrete bond behaviour: Experimental and mesoscale numerical studies

چکیده

Extensive experimental and numerical studies have been conducted to understand the bond behaviour of FRP-concrete interfaces with assumption homogenous materials. This study is aimed at a better understanding effects concrete heterogeneity on behaviour, by combination experiments mesoscale modelling. FRP-mortar bonded joints were tested using four-point bending setup. The crack initiation propagation process interfacial debonding until failure was accurately captured digital image correlation (DIC) technique. results show that presence coarse aggregates in leads 19% higher strength, but much variations strength strain distribution across width FRP sheets, than joints. Monte Carlo simulations finite element models random polygonal then carried out for tests. It found significantly affects overall force–deflection responses as well simulated fracture processes final modes are highly comparable DIC observations.

Bond of Frp Laminates to Concrete

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates are being successfully used for strengthening of existing reinforced concrete structures. Bond of the FRP reinforcement to the concrete substrate is of critical importance for the effectiveness of the technique. In this project, flexural test specimens were prepared to address some of the factors expected to affect bond, namely, bonded length, concrete s...

Numerical Characterization of Concrete Heterogeneity

In this paper, a finite element model including both material heterogeneity and size effects is presented. The concrete is considered as a statistical combination of constituent phase with different properties (aggregate, mortar and interface material). The material point response is based on a combination of the random occurrence of the solid phases in the structural volume as well as on the d...

Behaviour of FRP strengthened concrete columns under eccentric compression loading

This paper presents results of testing eccentrically loaded columns externally wrapped with two types of materials. Six cylindrical (205 mm diameter and 925 mm height) plain columns were cast and tested. Half of the columns were wrapped with GFRP and the other half with CFRP. All columns were tested by applying an axial load at 50 mm eccentricity. In each group (GFRP or CFRP wrapped) of columns...

Effect of Varied Surface Roughness, Putty Thickness and Concrete Strength on the Interfacial Bond Strength of FRP to Concrete

The use of bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets for upgrade or repair of aging and deteriorating concrete structure has emerged as a viable and cost effective method. Previous research has identified several items that influence FRP-concrete bond strength including concrete strength, type of FRP laminate, the number of layers of the FRP laminate, and the bonding agent or epoxy saturant ...
